What you would be doing as a fundraising intern

You would support the foundation's fundraising campaigns, which aim to bring in resources for educational and community welfare work. A big part of that is finding people and groups who might want to contribute: individual supporters, donors, institutions and community groups.

Once you have those contacts, you help build and keep up the relationship through regular communication and follow-ups, with both existing and prospective donors. You also keep accurate records of fundraising activities, donor interactions and contributions received.

You would take part in fundraising drives, awareness initiatives and donor engagement activities organised by the foundation, and work closely with the fundraising team toward the campaign objectives.

How to prepare before you apply

  • It helps to write down two or three examples where you persuaded someone or got a response from people you did not know, such as a college event, a club drive or a collection effort.
  • Practise a short, clear introduction of a cause in spoken and written English, since you would be communicating with donors and following up.
  • Get comfortable with a simple spreadsheet. Keeping tidy records of contacts, conversations and contributions is part of the work, so a basic MS-Excel tracker you have made is worth mentioning.
  • Think about how you would plan your day when working remotely with flexible hours, and be ready to say how you manage your time.
  • Read about the foundation's work with children in slum communities, so you can say why this cause matters to you.
